According to a statement from YATED, DENTUR, a civil society organization in the maritime industry established in 2000, discussed its name change project, which had been on its agenda for two years, at the association's regular general assembly and unanimously decided to change its name.
The required bylaw amendment was legalized following an application submitted to the Istanbul Governorate's Provincial Directorate of Civil Society Relations.
The need for a name change was shared with all members prior to the general assembly, and comments, opinions, and suggestions were received. Nearly 300 DENTUR legal entities and individual members, consisting of companies and individuals from the maritime industry, will continue under the same membership conditions as ’YATED Members“ after this decision.
In the statement, YATED President Alpaslan Sirkecioğlu, whose views were included, made the following remarks regarding the proposed amendment and its rationale:
“The name DENTUR needed to be changed due to confusion with another brand also named DENTUR and the recurrence of this issue at all industry events, and this was placed on the association's agenda. Therefore, we believe that the name DENTUR should be changed, both to enable our association, one of the largest NGOs representing the maritime industry, to represent our sector more effectively and carry out the necessary work to stand out, and to protect the interests of our highly valued members.”

Sirkecioğlu stated that the name replacing DENTUR should be “Yacht and Boat Industry” rather than “Marine Industry,” “It is clear that Turkey is among the top five countries in the global yacht manufacturing sector, and that the concept of yachts and boats is more widely known and accepted by both government and industry representatives, and is even used in opening speeches when referring to the sector. Developing maritime activities is among our areas of focus, and we will continue to increase our activities in this direction. After all, the development of maritime culture and love is the main source of our industry's growth. It is a fact that the main purpose of our association is to ‘develop our sector and protect its interests’. Ultimately, we are the voice of our industry.”.
