CSC Composite stands out in boat and accessory production by combining high-quality craftsmanship with fast production techniques, having produced successful boats that have won podium finishes in races. Having produced and exported 8 boats, over 10 molds, and nearly 10 hulls in 11 years, the company is currently working on hull and deck construction for a shipyard, as well as internal construction and accessory production for a carbon boat.
The company, which operates with a team of 12 at its facility in the Chemicals Organized Industrial Zone in Istanbul, also manufactures products for different sectors. CSC Composite Company Owner Can Ergün, who stated that their goal is to always deliver quality work, even if it means taking a loss, told our magazine the following about their entry into the marine sector, the projects they have carried out since the company's establishment, and their goals:
Boat building has always excited me
“My father pushed me to start sailing when I was 10 years old. I ended up loving it, and sailing became the center of my whole life. In high school, I always drew pictures of boats in the margins of my notebooks; I always wanted to build boats and become a designer. But I went along with life's circumstances and studied business administration. Between 2002 and 2006, I reluctantly worked in the IT sector. I wanted to build myself a boat. In 2007, I met a Danish acquaintance who owned Enigma, a company that builds sport sailing boats. I quit my job in IT and started working at Enigma as the production manager. I was in a serious car accident, my arm was severed, and I was in the hospital for four months. But even while I was in intensive care, I was thinking about the boat in production; boat building has always excited me. As Enigma Yacht, we built seven 34-foot fast boats used for both racing and cruising. The company went bankrupt during the 2008 crisis. After that, I received an offer from Nautique Marine. We were working on a project for a 10.5-meter boat capable of 70 knots. After working at the company for a short time, I received an offer to work on the same project myself.”
We built successful boats that made it to the podium in races.
“My father (Cem) founded a company called CSC Makina in 1993, using the first letters of my mother's (Serap) and my name. As CSC Makina, I started building boats as a subcontractor with this offer. We built three of these boats, along with their molds, and exported them to the Netherlands. We produced a mold for the Magmarin company. Subsequently, with the great support of Levent Karabeyoğlu, a partner at Doyle Sails, Proteksan, and Dökar, we began working on carbon bows, boat building, refits, and projects for various sectors in a hangar at Levent Karabeyoğlu's facility in the Chemicals Organized Industrial Zone.”
“The first boat we built at CSC was Korza, a sailing racing yacht. After Korza, we produced five Bolt 37 boats. The boats were designed by Ker Yacht Design, the company of Jason Ker, a renowned British designer whom I also admire. We then launched the Infiniti Performance Yachts 46 and finally the Pata Negra. In total, we built eight boats and over ten molds. We carried out the refit of a 16-meter boat. We produced and exported nearly ten keels. We built successful boats that crossed oceans and won races.‘
We are currently producing hulls and deck structures for a shipyard.
“In 2017, we participated in Turkey's first 100% locally produced electric composite family car project. As part of the project, we manufactured the entire chassis and body molds of the car from carbon fiber. We are working with the MAT shipyard, producing rudders and sternposts for their newly built boats. We are currently producing hull and deck constructions for a shipyard in Bodrum. It is a shipyard with 30 years of experience in building excellent boats. They are very good at furniture making; I was impressed by their woodworking skills—they do top-notch work. The carpenters on their team are master craftsmen in wooden boat and furniture construction.”
We specialize in one-off boat and mold production
“MAT and the shipyard we work with in Bodrum, like other manufacturers, focus solely on building the hull of the boat and have the other parts produced externally to the highest quality before assembling them. We have a different vision for boat production. We produce everything related to the boat in-house. We have done successful work, but making money is a different matter. Despite our successful work in composite boat manufacturing, we haven't been able to achieve sufficient profitability. We produce stairs with our own design and investment. Our focus now includes composite projects beyond boat manufacturing. We also produce items outside the marine sector, such as drone cases and motorcycle parts.”
“One-off boat We have significant experience in mold production and are confident in this field. Our prices are competitive and our quality is high. We have no rivals worldwide. Our low costs stem from our ability to produce quickly. Labor is a significant cost factor. Good, accurate design and experience drive costs down. All parts are designed using Solidworks software before the mold is produced. Everything is cut in three dimensions on the CNC. Production is carried out accordingly. There is little room for error in production. Before production, we design the job like a big jigsaw puzzle. In production, we just put the parts together. We have 3 engineers, who I believe are the best in the industry, and a team of 12 people, including 7 production workers and 1 administrative employee. Even though we sometimes took on projects at a loss, the 11-year journey has been very fulfilling for us. My goal has always been to deliver quality products, even if it meant taking a loss. Quality work brings in new projects. You have the chance to recoup your losses from the new projects that come in. I have always operated with this philosophy. In the boat business, sales and marketing are the most important aspects. We haven't been able to allocate enough resources to this.”
We will produce the entire internal structure of a boat for Germany from carbon. For this project, we are building a furnace that will operate at 100 degrees Celsius over an area of 25 square meters. We also have some orders for megayacht accessories. We are a new company in the production of custom-made mega yacht accessories. This is a market we have recently discovered, and it is quite large. Our goal is to increase our production in this direction and work with mega yacht manufacturers abroad. Working with corporate companies rather than boat users is a positive thing. Our competitors are foreign companies; there are no companies competing with us in Turkey. Being able to offer at least the same quality as overseas companies but at a more affordable price, along with the flexibility of our structure in cases of changes and extras, is a significant advantage for us in the overseas market.
