D-Marin to Host the ORC 2019 World Championship

Sailing Club Val, D-Marin Mandalina and Sibenik Municipality in June 2019 D-Marin ORC 2019 World Championship in Sibenik. With 150 sailboats and nearly a thousand sailors from all over the world, this prestigious regatta will be the biggest sporting event ever organized in Sibenik.

The regatta program will start on May 31 with the measurement of the boats and the opening will take place on Sunday, June 2 in Sibenik. The award ceremony of the championship, of which D-Marin is the general sponsor, will be held on June 8 at D-Marin Mandalina after the races. The sailboats will be moored on the boulevard between D-Marin Mandalina and Sibenik, offering visitors the chance to see the boats up close. The six-day regatta will include one long and one short offshore sailing race, as well as buoy races on two course areas.

D-Marin CEO Burak Baykan, said the following about the championship: “The D-Marin ORC World Championship will be the most important sailing event of the season. We are proud to host this championship in Croatia. This event will give us the opportunity to highlight watersports in Croatia as well as promote the charm and rich cultural heritage of the city of Sibenik.”

D-Marin Mandalina, together with Sailing Club Val, has previously hosted many top international regattas such as the 52SuperSeries, the ORC D-Marin Cup Croatia, various Farr 40, Melges 24 and Melges 32 Class events.

“We are pleased to return to Croatia with our ORC World Championship,” said ORC Chairman of the Board of Directors Bruno Finzi, He continued: “Sibenik is a beautiful city, everyone who comes here is very impressed. The number of boats participating in the ORC World Championship exceeded 100 for the first time in 2011, also here in Croatia. We are looking forward to another high turnout and a great regatta for everyone.’

Mayor of Sibenik Željko Burić, made the following statement about the event: “Sibenik hosting the 2019 ORC World Championship is very important for the promotion of our sailing club Sailing Club Val, the city of Sibenik and Croatia. The world's best sailors will come to the waters of Sibenik in June 2019, and millions of people globally will be able to watch these events.
