President Tamer Kıran, who participated in the Maritime Talks organized by the Dokuz Eylül University Maritime Faculty Alumni Association, said they expect yacht tourism to begin on July 1.
During the interview, Kıran commented on the sector, stating that container and dry cargo transportation had been negatively affected by the pandemic, saying, ”The number of players in the container sector has decreased significantly. As the number of players has decreased, we expect governments to increase protectionist measures in the coming period. Most recently, a company in France received 1.5 billion euros in state support. Therefore, state support will definitely come to a sector with such opportunities. It would not be wrong to expect the container and dry cargo markets to turn positive starting in the third quarter. There are steps that need to be taken here, and we have a period of 2-3 months ahead of us starting in the second quarter.”.
“Yacht tourism will return to normal starting July 1st.”
Stating that they had conveyed their demands regarding yacht tourism to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Kıran said that although June 1 was seen as the start of the tourism season, they expected a gradual transition and not a rapid opening.
Kıran said, “The target date is July 1. In this context, I anticipate that yacht tourism will also be opened to foreigners starting July 1. Domestic yacht tourism will begin on June 1, along with domestic tourism. We made our request to start with the opening of the tourism season. After the complete opening of arrivals and departures abroad, things will return to normal starting July 1.”.
