GIANT SAILBOAT PASSES THROUGH THE BOSPHORUS STRAIT

The 114-meter-long and 14-meter-wide Russian flagged sailing training ship named ‘Kruzenshtern’, which was completed in Germany in 1926, passed through the Bosphorus and sailed to the Black Sea.

The historic ship, called the second largest sailing ship in the world, embarked on a world tour on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the discovery of Antarctica by Russian sailors named Bellingshausen and Lazarus.

The next stop of the 94-year-old ship, which has visited many ports around the world, will be Novorossiysk, Russia, which is on the Black Sea coast.

The ship was built in Bremerhaven, Germany in 1926 and named ‘Padua’. After the Second World War, it was handed over to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) in 1946 as war reparations and served as a training ship of the Russian Navy. The ship, which was also used in 3 German movies in the past, was transferred to the Soviet Academy of Sciences in 1965 and is still used for educational purposes.
