According to the data prepared by the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) on the basis of 27 sectors, ship and yacht exports increased by 31.9 percent in 2020.
While the ship and yacht sector was the leader among 27 sectors with an export increase of 31.9 percent last year, Istanbul largely carried the exports of the sector, which delivered its products to 145 points.
According to data from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), exports of the ship and yacht sector, which stood at 1 billion 42 million 326 thousand dollars in 2019, rose to 1 billion 375 million 6 thousand dollars last year.
The sector, which achieved 31.9 percent increase in exports last year, surpassed many locomotive sectors with this rate and came out on top. Another noteworthy factor was the sector's exports to a total of 145 destinations last year, including countries and free zones.
Istanbul realized 799 million 33 thousand dollars of the total exports of the ship and yacht industry, which exported products from 34 cities in Turkey last year. This figure corresponded to 71 percent of the sector's total exports.
After Istanbul, the other cities that exported the most ships and yachts were Yalova with 461 million 818 thousand dollars, Izmir with 41 million 121 thousand dollars and Bursa with 27 million 769 thousand dollars.
Most exports to Norway
Norway was the country where the ship and yacht industry exported the most in 2020. Exports of 366 million 7 thousand dollars were exported to Norway.
Norway was followed by Marshall Islands with 237 million 799 thousand dollars, Russia with 139 million 926 thousand dollars, Malta with 87 million 584 thousand dollars and Luxembourg with 50 million 893 thousand dollars.
Looking at the change in the export volume of the sector by country, the highest export increase in terms of quantity was in the Marshall Islands with 153 million 466 thousand dollars.
We exported 828.5 million dollars worth of ships
Looking at the sub-items of the ship and yacht sector, ships made the biggest contribution to the exports of the sector last year with 828.5 million dollars, followed by tugboats with 154.6 million dollars.
In 2020, 144.3 million dollars of yachts, boats and boats, 140.8 million dollars of ferries, 49.1 million dollars of sea tankers, 38.3 million dollars of ship supply industry exports were realized.
Last year, 19.4 million dollars worth of other marine vessels not included in these classifications were exported.
