The Karpaz Gate Marina, which makes a significant contribution to tourism in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), kicked off the summer season with a series of events. The first leg of the events, which began with a reception on Saturday, June 7, featured the plaque ceremony for the Eastern Mediterranean Yacht Rally (EMYR) and the Caretta Caretta Rally, followed by the opening of the Piri Reis Maps Exhibition, brought to the TRNC by Karpaz Gate Marina in collaboration with Near East University and Girne University, with the support of İş Bankası.
The season opening event was attended by the Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Özkan Yorgancıoğlu, the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Nicosia, Halil İbrahim Akça, mayors, officials from Near East University, officials from Girne University, representatives of the Eastern Mediterranean Yacht Rally (EMYR) and the Caretta Caratta Yacht Rally, as well as many special guests from the press, politics, and the business world. Our magazine was also represented at the event by our foreign news editor. Prime Minister Özkan Yorgancıoğlu gave a short speech at the opening, addressing the yachts anchored in the marina, saying, “I am proud to see you here on this beautiful island in the eastern Mediterranean.” Expressing his gratitude to everyone involved in the construction of the marina, Yorgancıoğlu said, “I apologize for the difficulties you experienced in the past. I thank you for bringing such a beautiful investment to the country, and if you remain as persistent as you have been in the past in developing your projects, we will try to assist you.”.
Karpaz Gate Marina CEO and Partners Representative Liza Singer also noted that they have been striving to create a cultural center since 2013, when they launched the Karpaz Gate Marina Gallery, adding that the Piri Reis Exhibition is their third exhibition. Singer stated that they will continue to innovate and add an international flavor, without ever losing sight of protecting the Karpaz region and carrying it into the future.Following the official season opening ceremony, Karpaz Gate Marina Beach Club welcomed the season with a spectacular party at 8:00 p.m. The Cuban group Onelia Manzano and one of Istanbul's best DJs, Suat Ateşdağlı, gave performances that left their mark on the season opening party with their entertaining performances. The night, which also featured visual artist Di Lala, continued until the early hours of the morning.
Karpaz Gate Marina, which began operations with a €60 million investment by Karpaz Bay Resort Ltd. (KBR), owned by an international group of investors, has welcomed numerous tourists from 22 different countries to date. The marina, which has a capacity to moor 300 boats at sea and accommodate 150 boats on land, offers the services of the largest travel lift in the Eastern Mediterranean, with a capacity of 300 tons. Karpaz Gate Marina is currently the first and only marina in the Eastern Mediterranean to be awarded 5 Golden Anchors.
