Hempel Boya Strategic Account Manager Ahmet Gürbüzer talked to Yacht News Turkey about Hempel Boya products and the environmental solutions offered by the company.
What are Hempel's products for the ship and yacht industry?
As Hempel, we serve the maritime industry with our underwater and surface paint solutions that will extend the life of all kinds of materials used in ships and yachts. Our products are diverse. Our most common products among users are epoxy, alkyd, acrylic, polyurethane, putty and antifouling paints. With this wide range of products, we offer paint systems and color alternatives that can be easily applied to any area where needed.
What makes you different from other brands? Can you tell us about the advantages of your products?
Hempel Boya, as it is known, is one of the leading companies in the sector and often leads the sector with its innovations. While developing the products that will be included in its product range, Hempel is especially oriented towards innovative solutions that will allow the end user to apply easily. An example of this is our silicone-based underwater antifouling paint for yachts, which can be applied with a roller. Our paint solution called Hempel's Silic One will make a name for itself in the future. This product provides a great advantage to the end user thanks to its fast and easy application, its durability of up to two years thanks to its water-insoluble structure, and the fact that it can be applied to all boat materials including propeller and shaft ways. If we need to further diversify the product alternatives, we can talk about primer paints, which are the biggest problem for the end user. The general perception is that it is necessary to apply different primer paints for each material and surface. With Hempel's Light Primer, we offer a solution in this regard. This is a product that allows you to paint hulls, shafts, propellers and flaps with a single primer, whether the boat is wood or GRP (composite), aluminum or steel.
How is your dealer network in Turkey? Is it possible to access your products at every point?
As of March, we would like to announce that we are back in the yacht segment. With this development, our customers, who were previously able to access our products only in sales offices in large marinas, will now be able to find our products from almost anywhere with the dealer structure we have started to establish. We anticipate that this structure will become even more prominent in 2021. During these Covid-19 days, we have developed our relations and held meetings with various companies in order to make our products mentioned again in the yacht industry. We will bring the products in our product range that the end user cannot find in competing companies to the Turkish market as a priority. Thus, we will offer alternatives and permanent paint solutions to boat users.
We know that Hempel is a company that prioritizes environmental sensitivity. Could you tell us about your efforts in this regard? How is this sensitivity reflected in your products?
Nature is very important to all of us. Hempel's philosophy is based on avoiding any unnecessary impact on the environment. With this philosophy, we invest in innovative paint technologies and provide our customers with solutions that respect nature. For example, Hempel's Silic One, our silicone-based underwater product specially developed for yachts, is a product that is free of the toxic active ingredient biocide, easy to apply with its single-component structure, and respectful to nature thanks to its anti-fouling technology. Last year, this product successfully passed the tough tests conducted by independent researchers and won the first prize in its field with a score of 5 out of 5.
What is your market share in Turkey and what are your future targets?
We have re-entered the yacht sector, which we have been away from for a long time, with a stronger product portfolio. In 2011, we believe that we will be able to reach our peak period as soon as possible. The importance of underwater protection is a fact that everyone knows and experiences.
